Do not take ibuprofen with food (ADA update)

This is an interesting update for dentists and dental students. Ms. Geraldine Moses, the consultant pharmacist for the Australian Dental Association, has written a recent article in the ADA Bulletin (November 2015 issue) titled “take ibuprofen with water, not food” in her monthly pharmacy advice section.

The guts of the article says that we have being told by doctors and our professors to advice patients to take with food to reduce the risk of unwanted gastrointestinal side effects and this was found out by extensive literature studies and pharmacokinetic studies that it actually makes the drugs LESS effective.

This is now out of date with the current evidence.
