Congratulations on having your implant treatment completed! You will enjoy having your new set of tooth/teeth to enjoy foods and smile with confidence.
Here are a few pointers as a take home message:
After the appointment when anesthetic has been used, your lips, teeth, and tongue may be numb for several hours after the appointment. Please avoid any chewing until the numbness has completely worn off (if you are hungry it is recommended to have liquids instead in this period).
Once the anesthetic wears off please take note whether your teeth bite evenly. If this does not settle after a couple of days please call us to have the crown adjusted as “High spots “can cause sensitivity upon biting.
It is very important to have a soft diet for 6 weeks after the implant crown placement. This will encourage strong bone to grow around the implant.
Brushing and flossing on a daily basis is required. This stops the bone and gum supporting the implant from being destroyed
To increase the life of your implant you must maintain your hygiene visits every six months or as instructed by the hygienist. This is important due as implants can also have its own gum disease called peri-implantitis which can result in the loss of the whole implant (and crown).
